Enjoying a quality PA has nothing to do with the venue. The bands should hire a good PA, mixer and speakers. The last 3 or 4 shows I've seen at Woden Youth Centre had fancy lighting (colours, strobes), quality sound (they had a PA and a mixer, you could hear the vocals clear enough to make out the words that were being sung) and the bands had the right gear to put on a decent show in regards to sound. I think there was a smoke machine in one or two of them as well. You can play a gig in your lounge room that can sound awesome if you hire the right gear. Relying on a Youth Centre to supply a PA (of which it will obviously never be high quality) isn't a good idea. Spend the money on a good PA if that's what you're after. It's fairly easy to hire one for an amount that's small enough to pay back with the money you get from the door. WOW A PA AND A MIXER!!!! You're an idiot. Every show i have put on at Woden Youth Centre had a better then average pa. I dont justify charging people money for crap. Reguardless of what bands were playing.

Wasn't it you who said "Most of the time I leave a youthie show I think 'that would've been alright if the sound wasn't fucked'"?
I was just saying that the last few shows I've been to, the sound has been pretty good. Good enough to hear everything clearly. They also had lighting going on, colours, strobes, smoke machines. I've seen some pretty good shows, with good sound, good bands at Youth Centres. My point was that the venue really doesn't mean anything. You can play a good show in a small venue, you can play a good show at a youth centre.
You really have comprehension problems.
" And? Then you should know that it's not the venue that matters in the overall scheme of things. It's the set-up you've got. So why are you bagging out Woden and Tuggeranong youthies when it's clearly the fault of the bands who played or whoever organised the gig and didn't get the right equipment.
You were al "I want to see bands play with a good PA" and then when I said that I've seen quite a few shows with that your response was "WO! A PA AND MIXER!!! You're an idiot."
Your complaints really don't hold any ground, they're just attacking whatever's going on. They don't actually make sense.
I'd love to come check out one of your gigs with your band who just play for fun and always have great sound. When you playing next?

Band broke up not too long ang mate but i can assure you that the gear we own and use is more then attiquet. So with this amazing pa and mixer what did they have mic'd up? who was the engineer? What totally amazing bands did you get to see play?

If you've ever played Woden Youth Centre you'd know that mic'ing up instruments (besides bass drum pedal and vocals) is pointless and sounds WORSE than just having vocals mic'd. It's a small venue with a pretty packed playing area so as long as your guitar amp and bass amp's are 100 watts or over, you can get a clear sound just having your amps and drums unmic'd with vocals mic'd and probably the bass drum mic'd. We've played a few shows with a veteran called Wes engineering, he has his own home studio out in Kambah and he hires his gear out. With him we used to mic all the amps and stuff but we realised that you get a better sound with out so much stuff going on. We've had a couple of shows with the sound done by Hayden from Paqman, and recently we've had the guys from Turbulence doing sound with their own PA. They're still learning but they've been getting some really nice sounds and they also hire their gear out for very cheap.
The bands who I've seen put on good shows were already mentioned in another thread. Slovac, Astrochem, Monster Elephante, Paqman & Los Caps have all done excellent performances at Woden Youth Centre and the first three (first two more often) still play there quite regularly.
What gear did you and your band own that got such great sound?

How about, we all throw a show. With 7 PAs and 7 bands. Whoever gets the best sound gets bragging rights.

And if your band doesn't get the best sound, you get to pretend they did and say everyone else's sucked.

I can't help but wonder how much it would cost, being a heritage listed building and all.

Haha. Smartass. The permits I'm talking about are for public spaces like parks, reserves, sidewalks etc.
Actually Pete, we should find out how much Albert Hall costs. There's been a fair few big ones booked, shouldn't cost TOO much.
