Who are your "ones to watch" for 2009? I'm talking Canberra bands, of course. It can be your favourites, or the ones who are going to be releasing new stuff in 2009, or just the ones who you think have great talent and should be going places. My list:
Astrochem Rubycon Slovac Monster Elephante
These are the top four bands (in no order) that I wanna see as much as I can live, as well as play with them (musically, or perhaps on a trampoline). All four of these groups (which all have four members!!!) are the ones who I believe are Canberra's finest bands (underage particularly).
Who would you put on your list?

Jive/Chem/Vera/FOE It'll be interesting to see where Monster Elephante go now. Have they actually ever played outside Canberra? They won't fulfill there talent if they restrict themselves here. PTJY's EP should be good, even better without that "overly ambitious" R.L. Stine on it The chemist really burst onto the scene in the past 3 or 4 months since Digbyfest2, hopefully they can keep the momentum going, cause they are insane live. Like that new song last night. Vera's year will be next year. Hopefully. FOE Have been in the studio for god knows how many months, and their new sound is sounding awesome. Can't wait to see it live.

Paqman, Tell Me Bluntly and Slovac
Some might argue that Paqman aren't a Canberra band. They are, just melbourne based. So far they've had almost no success in Melbourne, and I can foresee that with the release of Devestating EP they're gonna rape melbourne up the ass seven times. All their new stuff is I guess more mainstream than Deux, but that also means it's fun to dance to.
Tell Me Bluntly have this outrageous energy onstage. You can sort of tell that they really want to prove themselves. Next year they're gonna write some really awesome new stuff and I'm gonna be excited to see them each time they play.
Slovac. Every song is completely different in style and ideas, but they all have this really cool feeling to them. The same sort of feeling, just like loneliness or desperation, but also hope and I just wanna close my eyes, forget people are there and listen and let it feed me, and I do that and it does. I really hope they keep at it, because I truly believe they have the ability to change music as we know it.

I was hanging out at FOE's studio the other day, recording is going very slow. Don't hold your breath.

Elephante, Super Best Friends, FOE, PTJY, Astrochem, Paqman and So Long Safety. The prospect of new choonage from these bands is quite arousing to be honest. It shall be a good musical year in Canberra

I've heard Astrochem's sole recording, you won't be disappointed. Well, you may be, but I sure enjoyed it.

As in, the one recording they have that I'm aware of. (EDIT) Of like an actual song they do, not the ones on their myspace.

Settle down. While I agree some bands in Canberra are heaps lazy, a couple are going to make waves in 09.
