Settle down. While I agree some bands in Canberra are heaps lazy, a couple are going to make waves in 09. Who?

Pleased To Jive You/Astrochem.
Jive's EP will propel them to new heights, while the momentum Astrochem has gained in 4 months has been amazing.

i have never heard of Astrochem so they cant be playing any good shows, which means they can only get better. I have seen PTJY once and was not impressed. I will have a listen to the EP when it comes out but at the moment i cant see them doing anything special. But hey, they might suprise me.

I never hear about any Lamexcuse's shows. I've never heard their music. Does that mean I hate them or think they're "not playing good shows"? Of course not. I'm willing to give them a chance. If you haven't heard of Astrochem, that's fair enough. They're fairly new and haven't done many high profile gigs. It doesn't mean they're "bad shows". To me it sounds like you judge everything of reputation.

Hey man, which PTJY show did you catch?
Next time Astrochem are playing, you should so check them out. Although I have a feeling that because you're a fan of Lamexcuse & Escape Syndeom that they wouldn't be your cup of tea.

To me it sounds like you judge everything of reputation. Lamexcuse have supported Trial Kennady and Horsell common this year, not to mention that they have realesed an album. Toured Australia with that album and are on very high rotation on tripple J's Short, Fast, Loud. As far as reputaion, thats how the music industry works. Do you think a record lable would be giving some nobodys decent shows. Dont think so. So you continue living in your world full of ponys and rainbows where everyone has a fair go, while i live here in the real world, watching real bands who have worked their way to where they are today.

Seriously, man, do you even read what you're replying to? Or do you just completely miss the point of every post someone makes?
Chilli was saying that IN YOUR THINKING because he's never heard of them, they mustn't be doing anything good. That's what you said about Astrochem, remember?
Then you go on talking about reputation and airplay and how the music industry works as if you're some know-it-all guru! Are you even in a band? Do you even play shows? Have you ever recorded an EP or album? Ever performed in front of over a hundred people?
I don't know if you realise but all the band members on this board are currently "working their way" to get where other bands are today. They're on the way. The're not there yet, but they're working on it. You may not be willing to believe that because your band probably fell apart before they even really got started that there are other bands who work very hard and hope to achieve success in the future.
Instead of brushing everyone off as talentless or a waste of time, take suggestions when you hear them. If people say "this band is really good, definitely one to watch" don't just say "never heard of them, so they can't be doing anything good" or "I've seen them once, unimpressive." You've got to be open minded and willing to try new things, go and see some new bands once in a while. Small bands only become big when people support them, so if you want bands to become big, support them!

His band's EP was pretty disappointing and there was a stage where they were playing every second show at Jamo Inn.

EP was disappointing in what way? The quality was bad or the song-writing and playing was bad?

Ok fuck it, I was in a band Called Afraid You'll Fall. We Supported bands such as Don't want to hear them), Behind Crimson Eyes, Horsell Common, Mourning Tide, Stealing O'neal and many more. We have played shows in NSW and Victoria. We have recored 2 EP's. We recorded in Sydney. Our last show had 195 payers and that was because i took the time to hand out flyers at shows, put posters up all around Canberra and also word of mouth. Im trying to give you some tips in maybe a little more of a harsh way. But this way you might fucking remember some of it. Young Canberra bands think being in a band is all fun and easy but for fucks sake its not.
We worked our arse's off to get the shows that we did and i think we deserved it. So after you have been playing for 4 years with successful results THEN you can have a go at me.

Yes our EP was dissapointing and rushed, but it was a learning experiance and we wrote a lot better songs after.

Quality. It was a pretty poorly produced effort, but if I remember correctly it was only a meant to be a cheap first release?
I'll be the first to admit I wasn't a complete fan of them, the vocals were distracting but when the singer shut up the music was enjoyable at times.

It's almost like unstoppable only gives his time to bands that have succeeded. Fair enough. He can do what he wants with his time. So long as it's known that it's not just hard work that makes a good band. Plenty of bands try their hardest and either suck tonnes or just don't get lucky. Luck is pretty important.

You'd think someone who seems to be so anal about sound quality wouldn't have settled for the cheap stuff.
Especially for a first release. You gotta make an impact straight away and you don't want people saying "the music's okay but the production sounds like crap."

Yeah, its definitely a mixture of things. Luck, timing, talent, drive. There are a whole bunch of albums that if they were released five years earlier or five years later they wouldn't have been nearly as successful as they were.
